DOTI Launches Public Survey to Shape the Future of its  Shared Bike and Scooter Program while Setting  All-Time Ridership Records

DENVER – Denver’s Department  of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is celebrating its Shared Bike  and Scooter Program’s record-breaking summer with ridership soaring past last  summer’s ridership by 24%.

The program, offering residents and  visitors convenient access to e-bikes and e-scooters through a partnership  with Lyft and Lime, achieved an all-time single day ridership high of 39,868  trips on Saturday, June 15, 2024. September 2024 proved to be the highest  ridership month, recording 795,823 trips and averaging over 25,000 trips per  day. The program is on track to reach over 6 million total trips this  year, eliminating an estimated 2 million car trips from Denver streets.

DOTI is beginning a community  engagement process in preparation for the award of new licensing agreements  for the Shared Bike and Scooter Program. The results will be helpful as DOTI  begins planning for establishment of new operator agreements, with the current  agreements with Lyft and Lime expiring in 2026. To inform the process, the  city is launching a public survey to gather valuable feedback from the  community. The survey is for riders and non-riders, aiming to gain insight  into e-scooter use in Denver and a better understanding of who’s using  e-scooters, when and why they ride, what kinds of trips they take, and the  factors that encourage scooter use. “Since the program launch, Denver has  become the most highly utilized e-scooter program in the nation with 5.6M  million trips completed so far this year, demonstrating the program’s  popularity and necessity in Denverite’s mobility landscape,” said Amy Ford,  Executive Director of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure.  “Denver's Shared Bike and Scooter Program continues to be a critical part of  the city’s transportation system, offering a convenient and  environmentally-friendly travel option for residents and visitors alike.”

DOTI is committed to the continued evaluation of ridership  behaviors and best practices to ensure Denver’s program effectively  encourages safe and responsible ridership. DOTI continues to build out its  bike network to give e-bike and e-scooter riders comfortable and safe places  to ride while over 180 parking corrals have been installed to promote  organized parking and reduce sidewalk clutter.  E-scooter users are  reminded to follow safe riding practices. Electric scooters and e-bikes may  not be ridden on sidewalks unless actively parking, starting or ending a  trip; riders should yield to pedestrians at all times and park responsibly so  as not to impede pedestrian access.
