Denver Zoning Code & “Middle housing”

The City and County of Denver’s Community Planning and Development department will launch a project later this year with the goal of allowing more middle housing forms in residential neighborhoods through potential updates to the Denver Zoning Code and other city rules and regulations. “Middle housing” refers to small-scale multi-unit structures such as duplexes, fourplexes, row houses or town homes. This type of housing exists throughout Denver, particularly in older neighborhoods that were built out back when those building forms were more common and not precluded by zoning.

We just published a project webpage with information about the project, including project goals, FAQs and photos of existing middle housing in Denver. The webpage also includes an interest form that residents can use to start getting involved, including applying for the community advisory committee, participating in a focus groups, and signing up for future updates.

We would like to spread notice of the form far and wide before we kick off the project, so we hope you share it with your membership and encourage them to participate throughout the project, which is expect to last through the end of 2026.

Please visit https://www.denvergov.org/housingchoices for details on the project and to submit the form.
